Tour A - From Southern Bohemia to Vienna

date by request

The route goes through regions with a great wealth of architecture and historical monuments, lovely countryside with vast forests and ponds. The daily length depends on the route´s profile and places of interest. Sightseeing and excursions are mostly offered in the mornings after breakfast. We usually follow quiet roads with very little traffic and also some cycle paths - in Czech Rep. along the border and in Austria along two rivers. Very short and easy off-road parts included, too.

After your arrival to Vienna /or Prague/ we move to the southeast region of the Czech Republic. We start the cycling part of the tour discovering landscape around the old town of Telc. There is a very beaufitul nature everywhere in the surroundings. The whole area is called the Czech Moravian Highlands. In Telc you will enjoy the atmosphere of the 16th century, especially in the evening. The historic centre of Telc with its chateau and square built in Renaissance style is included in the UNESCO list.

Telc The famous UNESCO square in Telc

The route from Telc is also very interesting. We continue in our tour to another towns built in the same style - Dacice and Slavonice. Here we visit the viewpoint from the highest tower.

The square in Slavonice

Then we follow former military roads along the border to Bítov. In small, but nice town Bitov there is a castle and also the west end of a summer recreation zone with dammed lake called Vranov.

The castle of Bitov

Next day in the morning we cycle to the nearest border crossing to Austria. The country in the beginning is waved. Later - from Gars - we go along the river Kamp. The last part of the route to Krems leads us in the middle of vineyards full of grapes. Austrian town Krems on the left bank of the Danube River is very beautiful in the day and because of the lights also in the evening. There are old buildings and sights like churches, gates, towers, etc. in the pedestrian zone of the historical centre. Following day we cycle on the famous Danube cycle path, using one side while going to the west direction and the other bank on our way back to Krems. In one of the evenings we visit a wine cellar to taste wine.

Krems - part of the old town

From Krems we cycle along the Danube river using another part of the Danube cycle path. In this direction - to Vienna - it also goes sometimes parallely on both banks, but sometimes far from the river.

The townhall of Vienna

In Vienna you discover (with bicycles!) the marvellous parts of this beautiful city with a lot of safety cycle paths and lanes. The next day you can decide where to go - it depends if you prefer a visit of the Schönbrunn Chateau or Opera or any museum ....or our friends in Himberg.
